A California judge has decided that one major coffee company failed to do enough to prove their drinks are safe for consumption.
The result of this decision is still in question, as it may be appealed, but legal experts are saying it could mean new warning labels on coffee cups in California.
The potential danger comes from a chemical known as acrylamide, which is present in the roasting process of coffee. Acrylamide has been on California’s list of chemicals that may cause cancer or reproductive harm since 1990.
“Defendants have failed to satisfy their burden of proving that sound considerations of public health support an alternate risk level for acrylamide in coffee,” the judge said, as quoted by the New York Times.
More than 3.4 billion pounds of coffee were consumed between 2016 and 2017, according to the International Coffee Organization. It’s one of the most popular morning rituals among American adults.
But the potential danger is causing many coffee drinkers in California to rethink their morning beverage of choice.
As people search for coffee alternatives, two natural alternatives have emerged that are safe and effective: polyphenols and probiotics.
Not only are these options potentially safer than coffee, they offer a clean-burning energy that doesn’t lead to a crash or jitters… and they don’t contain acrylamide.
One group that specializes in the science behind polyphenols and probiotics is Malibu Health Labs. On our website, you can find informative videos that explain how these methods provide natural energy, without the potential dangers of coffee.
